Important note regarding COVID-19:
as an immunocompromised / chronically sick person who cares about our community, i am continuing to take safety measures that prevent and mitigate spread. i wear a mask and i ask that those who share space with me do the same as well (with the exception of those who cannot wear a mask due to legitimate medical conditions).
we are still living in an ongoing pandemic. covid-19 has and continues to affect the long-term health and mortality of communities in the u.s. and beyond. studies have found strong associations between covid-19 infection and systemic inflammation as well as a host of health problems related to our heart, brain, and respiratory systems. while vaccines can ease the severity of symptoms for those who may become infected with covid-19, vaccines do not prevent infection or spread of infection. masks are most effective when they are worn by everyone. when we wear masks, we’re preventing respiratory droplets from emitting and potentially infecting others around us with contagious and potentially harmful disease. to read peer-reviewed articles from medical/scientific journals on COVID-19 (including helpful information about airborne respiratory viruses, how transmission works, vaccines, and mitigation measures), check out my literature review list here.
chronically ill, disabled, and other vulnerable folks should not be left to fend for ourselves. safety and access are made possible through solidarity and collective care. thank you for caring for me. thank you for caring for us.
